Jeanette Dickson qualified from Glasgow University in 1991. After completing her general medical training in Eastbourne, she returned to the Beatson Oncology Centre in Glasgow to train as a Clinical Oncologist. After spending two years in Manchester completing an MD in intrinsic radiosensitivity, she came to Mount Vernon to complete her training.

Not long after taking up her consultant post in 2002, Jeanette became Clinical Tutor for the Mount Vernon site, with the responsibility for managing junior doctor training. Maintaining high standards in clinical training remains one of her main interests. In 2009, she was appointed as inaugural Head of Specialty School of Clinical Oncology for London and Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

Jeanette visits Watford General Hospital twice a week. Her main interest in is treating patients with lung cancer but she also treats some patients with lymphoma

CHART is Continuous Hyperfractionated Accelerated Radio Therapy

MRCP  is an exam and it is to allow doctors who wish to be physicians (rather than surgeons) to advance into more advanced specialist training.

MD is a degree awarded after 2 - 3 years time spent in a laboratory doing research.

MSF - is a multi-source feedback where trainees get those who work with them (from all professions) to feedback in confidence about their attitudes and behaviours

DOST - is a Direct Observation of Systemic Chemotherapy - a trainee is observed talking to a patient about chemotherapy treatment to assess the trainees knowledge and understanding.

Mini-CEX is where a trainee is observed examining a patient to ensure that they are doing it correctly

MDT is multi-disciplinary team meeting
