AMD or Age Related Macular Degeneration is, as name says an elderly persons problem. In Hillingdon Hospital it is Dr. Nick Lee who looks after AMD patients.
Years ago I attended a caravan in Northwick Park for eye treatment and was transferred to Moorefield Hospital to take part in a trials. This was decided on the random selection of a computer. Thank goodness I was ruled out, no steroid injections. I later learned that the trial was a failure and some people suffered! I had a lot of laser treatment here and later had a cataract operation which took over 45 minutes with a trainee till the Consultant took over, I needed stitches. The Consultant did the next eye some months later it took 15 minutes and I spent a lovely night there in my own self contained room with TV etc, good dinner and breakfast served, then follow the green line on the pavement to Old Street on the Northern line to Bank and home on the Central line to West Ruislip. Such an easy journey, 1 hour.
I  transferred to Hillingdon Hospital and later to Mount Vernon which I continue to attend for routine check-ups.
