Baroness Cumberlege opened Beaconsfield East Ward on 20th June 2014.  This sixteen bed rehabilitation ward receives many elderly patients.  Its refurbishment has been designed to make it dementia-friendly, with colour coding of sleeping areas to make navigation easy for patients, and many features to provide patients with sensory stimulation.   There are large windows and direct access to the spacious garden from both the main sleeping bays and the day room.  All flower beds are raised to waist height so that patients can see, smell and touch the plants without bending.  Imaginative planting promises interest in every season of the year.   This ward will make Hillingdon Hospital  the envy of its peers - and no doubt will inspire many others to copy its innovative ideas.
